"The reason I chose to sign up for Julie’s "Craving Better Health" program had nothing to do with losing weight. I chose to work with her because I wanted to make better food choices. I felt I would be a real challenge for Julie when I told her I had never used my five year old oven and wasn’t much of a cook. "Julie came to Bright Horizons in Pembroke to offer three different nutritional seminars for the staff and parents. These seminars were interactive and full of valuable information that could improve the health of our families. Julie gave handouts, recipes and came with examples of foods to avoid and others to include when you go food shopping. She covered the processed food epidemic and what ill effects it has on our bodies and the importance of reading labels and eating more "whole foods". We learned about the benefits of raw foods, organic, and locally grown food; as well as some strategies to eat "healthy on the go". Julie gave some great ideas on what parents can pack in their children's lunch boxes that will give the children natural energy and keep them alert and focused throughout the day. She reminded us about the ill effects of too much sugar in our diets and how sugar is hidden in products like ketchup, peanut butter, sport drinks and even toothpaste. Julie made it possible for parents to make some small changes to our diet to help our families be as strong and healthy as possible. She opened our eyes to a better, healthier lifestyle, that is really no more expensive or time consuming as I initially anticipated. Within the first week, changes were made to my family’s diet. Each week, I try a little harder to make more mindful choices at the store, packing lunch boxes, and preparing meals. I would highly recommend Julie, she is insightful and inspiring."
"Julie came to Lawrence Academy to participate in our Winterim program"Yoga Beyond the Mat", a yoga/wellness program for high school students. Julie conducted a nutritional seminar geared toward adolescents, in which they were taught how to relate nutrition to their athletic and academic performance. They learned about food as fuel for the body, as well as, how nutrition effects our energy level, allowing our mind and body to work at their optimal levels. Julie taught the students how to read labels and recognize healthy vs unhealthy ingredients. In addition, they learned of how to eat nutrient dense foods and whole foods closest to their natural state. Julie emphasized how students can make healthy choices through simple changes. The seminar was hands on, allowing students to make their own homemade trail mix, as well as, sample healthy, good-tasting fruit smoothies. Julie connected effortlessly with this age group. She had a positive impact, as the students continue striving to make healthier choices and have become increasingly aware of what they are putting into their bodies. I highly recommend hiring Julie.
